Schtein would hung himself!? She won’t really buy it, will she? xD
anyway, I just saw that the two upper corner of the sixth panel, above the speech bubble, weren’t coloried. There’s also a typo in the third panel… it’s bureaucracy, not buruaucracy.
No, deirdre is correct. The verb is “hanged” when referring to someone hanging via noose of some sort. Just because people use hung in place of it doesn’t mean that they’re correct, it just means they’re using the word incorrectly and have no real motivation to use the correct form.
Nope. Sorry. Either way is correct, but hanged is slightly more correct. Which doesn’t make hung less correct. In fact hanged would only be more correct if I was writing like a news report or some other kind of professional publication detailing an actual execution. Then people could get all uppity about the usage of hanged vs hung. Though it would still be a totally pointless and annoying argument.
“The distinction between hanged and hung is not an especially useful one (although a few commentators claim otherwise). It is, however, a simple one and easy to remember. Therein lies its popularity. If you make a point of observing the distinction in your writing you will not thereby become a better writer, but you will spare yourself the annoyance of being corrected for having done something that is not wrong.”
(Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary of English Usage, 1994)
BUT, the whole argument is moot anyway because it’s dialogue written in a conversational tone, and who the hell writes conversational dialogue with 100% correct grammar? Seriously.
I admire how thorough and polite you are in defending this. People can be very uppity about this sort of grey-area grammar and while it would be important in a college paper, I agree that it’s silly to argue about it when it’s in the context of a conversation. Besides, who thinks about grammar when they’re lying through their teeth?
Hanged is still correct, regardless; the quote you used actually confirms it.
BUT, as you said, conversational tone, blah blah blah. The real matter is that it’s your comic, you do as you like.
It’s just one of those grammar nazi moments.
I don’t know, man… I will readily admit I am no grammar king (generally why I have a proofreader, also I can’t spell), but I did do a lot of reading yesterday to make sure I wasn’t like… TOTALLY wrong. And most everything just conflicts! Some people are like YEAH BRO IT IS TOTALLY IMPORTANT AND CORRECT TO SAY HANGED and then other people would be like NO, EITHER WAY IS CORRECT and then they’d cite a bunch of shit I didn’t understand about the evolution of the english language and buhhhhh
andddddd… I mean, honestly it just doesn’t matter.
And it’s definitely not me being like “MY COMIC MY RULES WOOOO” because I don’t want to be THAT GUY. I think in general most people don’t write characters like that. Because people don’t talk like that. So why would you write a character in a way that no one talks like?
I’m gonna stop arguing about it, though. I’m probably wrong about the grammar thing, but that’s really beside the point.
And the whole topic is really giving me a stomach ache ’cause I hate having internet debates like a lot, wow. :/
also, sorry, everyone. I don’t know why I let this get to me so much, I really shouldn’t. I’m overreacting, agghh, god, how embarassing. Now I’m flailing and digging myself deeper, jesus. Now I’m responding to myself oh god. Gonna just shut up now.
>.< I really need to learn to read all comments before posting my own…
Beckey, no grammar issue could possibly make your comic any less awesome than it already is, which is Extra Super Awesome. Even when Marcus isn't on-screen.
His slip up of almost saying “wife†instead of “ex-wife†makes me wonder… is it because he’s recently divorced or PRETENDING to be divorced? Hmmm
Also I really, really love the way Marcus looks in panel 6. Such a sad little face.
It could just be a realistic detail type of thing. That happens plenty to people who have been married a long time, even when they have nothing to hide. Old habits, etc.
Though if he is hiding something it will probably be more interesting!
Haven’t commented in a while – but I am still reading, :) Should show my appreciation for this comic more often!
I love where all of this is going. I hope she doesn’t give up on Schtein – oh and Marcus is awesome. He reminds me abit of my brothers cat! The details in your inking still blow me away. Feels like you spend more time on really awesome backgrounds these days. I like it! Keep up the awesome work. :)
Soo, when they were involved in the past, how serious did their relationship get? Did he just creep on her, prompting his wife to get a restraining order, or did they have a mutual relationship for any amount of time? How far did it go? Will we find out more about this later in the comic?
Grammatical error! Objects are “hung;” people are “hanged.” Remember it like this: “The stock broker hung a rope from the ceiling and hanged himself on it.”
This guy should know better, seems how he appears to have been strangled years ago.
Poor Delia! She sure knows how to pick the pale, creepy jerkwads, doesn’t she?
I didn’t remember the name Eric until the restraining order was mentioned :o Makes me wonder if he knows what the project was about since he introduced the job to Delia and all.
I really love his face in panel 5. Can’t wait to see where this is going. Will she give up on Schtein?
It’s ok Delia I love Appetite for Destruction too

oh hey, what do you know. Oh well, easy enough to fix.
It’s what I get for asking my proofreader how to spell a word when he was half asleep instead of just looking it up myself. How lazy of me.
It’s hanged. When a person kills itself via rope around the neck, it’s hanged, but when you put a picture on the wall or some such, it’s hung.
Hung isn’t incorrect, actually. And I’d think a real person would be more likely to use it than hanged.
Agreed here :x I definitely say “hung.”

there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Both ways work.
“They said you was hung!”
“And they was right!”
This man. He is icky. I demand him to be killed by a rabid swarm of ferrets.
Also, I think Marcus is either:
A) Running to cry by himself over Stein’s “death”
B) Knows its a lie and is gonna do somethin about it
I thought he was just seeing more birds to yell at
Idk he looks pretty sad in the third to last panel.
I lovelovelove the tiny Marcus peeking over the chair arm in panel two!
Also, that is one slimy man. Slimier than Schtein! Though I suppose if that’s what you’re into, Delia…
Hahaha, his eyes keep changing size. :I
SHHHH! *shields this comment from Beckey’s eyes so she doesn’t spend valuable update time fixing it*
Maelstrom, that’s called facial expressions. :V

I do love that cat.

Dude looks undead. She must share my love of older, unhealthy-looking men! :Dc
If this is the type of guy Osgood goes for, Schtein has more than a fair shot.
