YAY! UPDATE ONLY A FEW MINUTES LATE! I’VE BEEN WAITING ALL WEEK FOR THIS!!!
I *LOVE* Phineas’ smile in the first panel! Dr. Schtein is all curled up and sick, and he’s just prattling happily away about himself. Also, major points for the “polite serial killer.” If I were ever to become a serial killer, I would put a huge emphasis on manners. My victims would be rude assholes.
… I’m still confused about how this system works, though. They allow medium-security prisoners to volunteer at the understaffed infirmary? And it sounds Phineas he had a choice of whether or not to work in Nevada?
Oh wait, I get it. Qualified professional workers don’t want to come to Nevada, so it’s woefully understaffed, so they recruited inmates at this prison, like Phineas, to help.
Hmm… if the warden assigned Phineas specifically to Dr. Schtein… and Phineas has a thing about being polite… then maybe she’s expecting Dr. Schtein’s disrespectful personality to provoke Phineas into torturing and killing him. Maybe she even hinted to Phineas that he would be able to get away with it.
Ooh! Oooh! While I’m at it, I’m also going to guess that Dr. Schtein’s plunge into supervillainy will be caused by a number of factors but ultimately triggered by Osgood’s death!
Killing her off already?! XD I doubt it, we wouldn’t have any element to trigger moral insecurity in Schtein, as in ‘now I’ve been forced to be evil, but oh guess what! Osgood’s still there! WHAT IF we just disappeared in the sunshine forever after’.
And a plainly, stupidly evil character is not interesting. Think about all the obsession about the ‘Snape: Friend or Foe’ question in the Harry Potter series :P
Oh poor Schtein. He looks miserable. Detox is a bitch.
And it’s true, all you need to be a model prisoner is to say ‘yes sir, no sir’ a lot to the prison guards. I know this because my downstairs neighbour who talks so loud that I can hear him through the floor got out of prison early on good behaviour because he was polite.
*laughs nervously*
Phineas looks so Nazi-gone-even-worse, along with the ancient mythological references and the militarised owl. I wonder if he was an outstanding Hiler-Jünge as a kid.
But then again, he might be everything but Nazi, seems to me he would have already been executed if not forced to work in some military scientific facility (even if I can’t imagine what he could be blackmailed with to ensure his collaboration)
POW, or just evil ‘traitor to the motherland America’ for the sake of fun -i.e. something involving lots of blood, possibly not own’s-?
Time to be nitpicky and annoying because I have no life whatsoever. Didn’t Schtein have an IV needle/ bandage on his hand the past couple of pages? Unless he removed it off-screen WELL WHATEVER.
I’m wondering how many times he’s had to be, um, transfered from prison to prison because of violent indiscretions.
And the scariest villians/criminals are the ones intelligent enough to know how to work the system to their advantage – I highly doubt that being /polite/ makes Phineas any less dangerous.
I probably should have written that more like “I haven’t killed anyone here”. Didn’t mean to imply that he’s been in other prisons. High profile multiple murder cases like his get sent to Langstrom’s prison to appease the public because of its location. It’s also a good place to send people you don’t want the public to know about.

the recruit inmates to work in the infirmary in a lot of prisons. Inmates also staff the kitchen and laundry.
FFFFFFFFF! WHAT? Polite serial killers are the CREEEPIEST! Have you not seen The Watcher? Most creepy.
OMG… BRAVO. I think that’s a great plot right there, but then the author might have scrapped that out because you thought of it already.
I’m working from a script and about a couple months worth of presketched out pages. I can’t just rewrite on whim. :D
Just gotta wait and find out if this theory’s correct I guess.
Ooh! Oooh! While I’m at it, I’m also going to guess that Dr. Schtein’s plunge into supervillainy will be caused by a number of factors but ultimately triggered by Osgood’s death!

agh, I left a word out. Why do I do that so much? Some kinda brain problem! I’ll fix it soon, I got to go eat dinner.
Har, fixed. Now no one will ever know!
*I* know!!! It was in the last panel!!! You left out the word “to” between “you” and “look!!!” Now everybody will read my comment and know!!!
What do I win???!!!
You win a frown.
>:C
Yay!!!
Radiation, mutants, and tuberculosis? This guy is already torturing Sctein. XD
Schtein*
Whoaaa such detail put into the backgrounds this time! I love it!
Preeeetty sure Phineas is my favorite character right now. Yes. It’s decided.
I don’t know why, but I started to laugh when I saw the tuberculosis panel. I feel horrible.
bex – last panel ASKED not ask … fix it naow :D
(elmyra voice) okay, i love you, bye bye!
Naw, he’s speaking casually and leaving out “Did” from the beginning of the sentence.
Like you might say, “Dogs been fed?” for “Have the dogs been fed?”
I refuse to fix Dr. Schtein’s atrocious grammar.
You’d think years of private schooling and fancy college would make him a better speaker, but I think he does it on purpose.
damn :)
I made a crack about the tuberculosis panel today on the bus and no one had an idea what in God’s name I was talking about.
Aaaand now I’m caught up! What a wonderful comic so far, Beck. Will definitely be reading regularly.
Aw, thank you! C:
I love Dr. Schtein’s hair in this page; it’s absolutely adorable.
Oh poor Schtein. He looks miserable. Detox is a bitch.

Haha, fascinating indeed. XD
Caught up on this yesterday, what a fantastic comic, your art and characters are awesome! Keep up the good work! :D
Aw, dude, thank you very much!
new. fave. character. I wonder if we ever meet the guy dying.
Phineas looks so Nazi-gone-even-worse, along with the ancient mythological references and the militarised owl. I wonder if he was an outstanding Hiler-Jünge as a kid.

Phineas’ happy face scares the hell out of me.
Aw, dang it. Darn you nitpicky people! >:(
I’ll fix it in a jiffy.
I’m re-reading Phin’s dialogue and does it say it like
“Well, I haven’t killed anyone in *this* prison…” And I read an implied “Yet” at the end?
Hooboy.
I’m wondering how many times he’s had to be, um, transfered from prison to prison because of violent indiscretions.
And the scariest villians/criminals are the ones intelligent enough to know how to work the system to their advantage – I highly doubt that being /polite/ makes Phineas any less dangerous.

The “Yet.” is definitely implied, however.
