Chp7 Page07
Sorry about the huge gap in update time. Normally I have no excuse so I don’t say anything, but this time I was dealing with a funeral, so, yeah.
Also it’s my birthday. :| (well it will be in like 4 hours, anyways.)
I think this page makes it fairly obvious what ol’ Doc’s newfangled abilities are. What do you think? Let me know! Super curious.
The power of perfectly groomed hair.
Happy birthday! I’m just glad that this comic continues on, no matter how long it takes. I’m invested in seeing what happens next and I can be patient.
Welcome back and Happy Birthday. :)
Hmm, what could the Doc’s superpower be? I’m going to rule out tentacle monster.
HAP BRITH
borfdep
so is this what his powers do, allow him to read minds, or some other kind of information, from other people?
Well, that color in the last panel is coming from somewhere!
Fear Manipulation Power reversal?? Honestly, I’m a bit fuzzy on ANY of the power specifics evidenced so far. Abel’s got some sort of domination/compulsion obviously, plus the whole gaseous murder thing. And Cain is telekinetic, with maybe some light manipulation?
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this comic, the art and story are nothing less than fantastic. And I particularly like not having any drop the power explanation speech so common in hero comics; it makes it all feel a lot more organic. Great stuff!
This comic is so great. I love reading it. The art is fantastic and the characters are compelling. Also, happy birthday!
Happy B-day! :) Your present is light orbs. As for his powers, probably not the red thread of fate. Don’t see the Doc doing marriage arrangements any time soon. Maybe it connects him to others and lets him tie into their memories?
I haven’t figured out the specifics of Schtein’s powers yet, but I think I have an idea of why Abel keeps shifting in and out of color. Everything we’re seeing here is inside Doc’s head and is made up, more or less, of his memories or interpretations of things. He remembers what this house looked like and he remembers what he, himself, looks like from before the robo-eyes so he sees these things in color. He met Abel (well, remembers meeting him as an adult, anyways) *after* the robo-eyes, so his only memory of him is in gray scale. Whenever Abel exerts himself to gain control over Doc, he’s forcing himself into Doc’s mind and his own image/memory of himself (in Technicolor!) fades in momentarily.
That’s my theory, anyways…If you ever actually explained it before, I missed it and probably look like a jackass.
Oh, and happy birthday and sorry to hear you had to deal with a funeral, those are always rough.
oh that’s it exactly for the Abel thing, yeah!
Happy Birthday Grundy!
Ugh when will doc kick Able out of his head already. I hate seeing him being lead around like a dog by Able’s belt like leash.
P.S. my condolences for your loss. Truly sorry to hear you lost someone near and dear.
Yeah same here. The whole pull-him-around is a bit degrading…
Also is there meant to be no leash in the first panel?
My guess is that good ole’ Opa gave doc the ability to counter Cain or Able at the very least. Cant wait to find out his full arsenal of abilities!
it disappears and reappears, but I probably could have stood to added more of them around his body, the only ones that are there (around his wrists) aren’t terribly visible now that the page is all shrunken!
Herv the smartass, brainy creep has been a pathetic survivor of some pretty deep Hell. Now, as the smartass, brainy creep with POWER, he is pretty scary.
birfday. happy one.
Also, Doc is pretty clearly able to either read minds or memories or pasts of some sort.
He has been given the power of witty banter! Now he no longer is socially awkward when fighting his enemies, and if he grows in power he may even one day become affable!
YESSS exactly!!!! He’s going to outwit everyone from now on!
My condolences, and also Happy Birthday, Grundy.
As for Schtein’s powers… I’m not sure. When he managed to shake off Abel’s purple power tendrils the first time by dissolving them I thought Opa had made him immune to or able to negate other psychics’ powers. But then Abel managed to put him on a leash anyway.
Now Schtein is starting to forms tendrils of his own? Or absorbing Abel’s tendrils to make them his own? Is his new power the abiity to analyse and copy the powers of other psychics, like Sylar did?
The “mind-reading” seems to be mutual, probably a side-effect of the mindscape that Abel initiated. And honestly, I don’t think Schtein is really reading Abel’s thoughts here. He’s merely putting all the puzzle pieces of information together, venturing some wild guesses, and throwing out verbal barbs to see if Abel will react to it.
I just went back to the previous pages and noticed that on Page 06, first panel, the black “leash” around Schtein’s neck starts turning red as he pulls on it, until Abel yanks on it. And on Page 05 his hands are sparking red. The question is, is this merely a visual representation of their mental power struggle in the mindscape? Or Schtein’s actually starting to absorb Abel’s power and turning it against him?
The other question is, where are their actual bodies right now? Standing around in front of the desk, staring at nothing, with Schtein still in Abel’s chokehold? What stops Abel or anyone else in the rooom from simply choking Herville Schtein until he loses consciousness?
Power: The connection made by psychics is normally one way, but not with Schtein. Once connected to him, he gains control over the connection and can reverse it. Mu-hahahahah
I’m on board with this theory but can’t explain the other pieces (asphodelethe’s note below). Gonna think about it some more. But Opa seems to actually like Schtein a lot so he probably would want to give Little Herv some kind of defense against all the weird psychic children running around. Kids play rough, you wouldn’t want your grandkid repeatedly getting whooped by mindreaders and such.
I dunno about the reversing psychic control thing. I mean, he had to practice on those two people Orville captured, didn’t he? They weren’t psychic, so something has to originate from him in the first place. But I agree that he certainly seems to have the ability to corrupt Abel’s psychic tendrils and make them his own – at least for a while.
Good connection. I had forgotten that,
Hmm. He’s got a special nerve grown throughout his body. He was physically unwrapping the leash. My guess is that he can physically sense and interact with the psychic. Mind reading falls out of that since the other person must extend their psychic to use their powers.
Maybe coupled with this is an ability to absorb or emit the psychic through these nerves.
I like the idea that he can sense and interact with the psychic, as a tangible thing. That’s nice… Like you say, he’s got that special nerve, and I couldn’t figure out WHY that may be, but I think you’re onto it. He can potentially feel other people’s psychic energy, touch it and manipulate it with his own. Oh damn that is SWEET
Isn’t the psychic rope thing missing in the first panel? Pose and following panels suggests it should be there but isn’t.
It looks like he’s able to manifest emotions in the form of energy, because every time he’s used those powers, it’s when he was under extreme duress.
Started following your Twitter in the interim between updates, sorry for the rough time you’ve been having. : \ Also, this page is really nicely colored. Annnd Schtein’s being a jerk. :D
The ability to change Abel back into color from black and white? ;-)
Happy Birthday Beckey!
Your comic is awesome!
I really have no idea, about Doc’s power set…however if i was Opa, I would make my Grandson POWERFUL…but with alil bit of mind control / brain washing to be able to control him if i as Opa needed to do so.
My guess would be while Herville’s power is stronger, he is still a novice using it. Able can only keep him subdued for so long before Schtein eventually overpowers him.
Heyyy is that a DeathNote poster in the first panel?!? It looks a lot like L but I could be wrong… (I’d think Opa was more of a Light fan anyways)
It’s a siouxsie and the banshees poster. Orville is from the 80s.
