Whew sorry about skipping a week. Our AC busted, and, since I live in Texas, that meant it was like 85+ in my apartment for like two weeks. I mean that’s not unlivable but it did make it hard to concentrate on drawing. Also every time I did I could hear my computer’s fan just going like crazy which was worrisome. Anyway it’s fixed now!
There might be another slight hiatus at the end of next month, also, because I’m about to move.
Wait did he build a teleportation device? No, no, no, its way too soon for him to do this. Unless he managed to get view people memories and steal their banking information. Will he ever stoop this low Mr. Grundy?
well, he did say he could miniaturize the design, possibly weaponize it, so it probably wouldn’t cost more than he was paid to go talk to oppa schtein.
I beg to differ. While it is true he talked about it there is no evidence he has had the time to 1) Develop a proper and full-proof way to make the device work even disregarding the amount of time heed need to test it before using it on himself willingly. 2) Get the resources/materials required to make something the government has funded for years in such a small compact form in regards to cost. The money he received would need that money to start his life around or get it stable enough for him to achieve his goals, whatever they may be. He would need a lot more money to do this. 3) And finally heed need to find out how to get the items without drawing suspicion since its not something the public would have access to.
1) they already did that back in the lab before schtein blew it up, not to mention there has evidently been some time since his release from thanatos. 2) miniaturize, dude. means less total materials and a much smaller end product. plus: they gave him a lot of money to go talk to oppa. 3) how would they even know to be looking for someone collecting parts to make a miniaturized teleporter? they think he’s dead *and* they never actually got the end result from him or langstrom, let alone the miniaturized version schtein literally just had an epiphany about before the explosion.
1) I am referring to a miniature version. It would require its own power supply and a massive one at that along with distorting electronics with the required magnetic fields it generates or needs to function if i remember correctly. 2) While miniaturize means less material and smaller size they will undoubtedly be more expensive. Look at the price of 2 laptops that have the same specks but smaller sized hardware. The one with smaller sized hardware allows developers and users to add more things into the free space. Or you can look at the cost of a nuclear power-plant. If you want to reduce it to 1/10th of the size from a modern one in the U.S.A. the cost of materials would be less but the amount of R.N.D. = Research and Development, needed to make it happen and work would be much more than the cost of building a nuclear power-plant to scale. 2.5) That money would be needed to kick-start his life, get food, get situated, and supplies for other ventures and backup money. He also needs a lot to keep his finances and books balanced since he has a large estate. 3) They would not need to know the components of a teleport-er to get suspicious. The equipment required alone would look odd and could be used for other nefarious purposes. If one guy orders a grade set of equipment it raises some red flags. If the same guy orders a government grade set of equipment, new vehicles, lots of high-end equipment, workshop supplies, computers, and tries to stay under the radar and they notice it it will really raise a lot of red flags.
This is a neat convo I don’t want to intrude on.
Except I gotta tell you it’s spelled ‘Opa’ with one p. Pronounced like OH-pa, it means grandfather.
Hey Mr. Grundy, can you tell us how much money Doc. got from that job? Also did he have debt since he was in prison and couldn’t pay electric bills, taxes, etc?
No I don’t want to go into specifics about how much he got, but it was well into the millions.
He was also very rich beforehand, he receives royalties from his mother’s books, and he’s also the heir to a condiment manufacturer. Now that his assets are unfrozen he’s flush with cash.
His mother never got a chance to actually write him out of the will.
Wow. Okay he may have enough funds for the R&D to make the mini-teleportation device. I hope he makes tons of cool gadgets that end up failing or malfunctioning at the beginning before he becomes a competent evil villein XD.
Good luck with your move. I know its late but didn’t read the authors notes/comments this page. Sorry.
P.S. You should remake this image

with paint under the carpet leading to a vent as a prank for those who take your place XD.
ha ha nahhhh I’d rather not have my apartment complex send me a bill for something like that. I mean they’d def see it when they replace the carpet after we leave (they are legally required to do this)
Lawrence, mate, you have, like, half a lifetime of experience that specifically tells you to not let Schtein pull you into his garbage fire. Why you doing this to yourself, son?
Also, man, doing comics in the heat suuucks. The clever money says you’re using a tablet, but inking pencils with sweaty hands is not something I ever want to try again
I don’t get sweaty, but it’s still not fun. I imagine a slick tablet would be difficult to work on, also. I mean it’s just hard to concentrate and think at that point. I mostly just kept going back to sleep! :D
Best of luck with the move!
And yuck, 85 outside is great (well, in the desert) but inside an apartment it’s torture. #livingupstairs
yeah outside it’s nice because there’s air moving. But we don’t have a fan or a screen on our door for some reason (apartments!). Oh well. Fixed finally. We were already moving out but this sorta cemented it.
Can’t recommend enough a combined interior weather management system- bought a Vornado fan, R value window film, and inexpensive thermal curtains from Big Lots…just about keeps it livable for me. :) It was expensive somewhat initially but it keeps indoors 10 degrees cooler than outdoors. Good luck with the move!
Texas + A/C busted = unlivable.
Except for about 3 weeks a year.
And I’ll bet you don’t even have a pile of servers at the house, like I do. (At least I have 2 stories in the house.)
Lawrence is a lot more eager to help Schtein than I thought he’d be!
Haha, that pose in the last panel. “Yeah I’m an ex-convict now. Totally a bad boy. I work out! I’m not a nerd (anymore)!”
hahaha the only work outs he gets is running from his own self created problems
