part of that mishmash in the last panel seems to be my childhood bedroom. Let me tell you from experience: shag carpeting is awful.

I really like Schtein’s expression in the first panel
Guess his grades are a reflection of his intellectual growth: Einstein-esque
.
those aren’t his memories.
That’s actually a misconception! In the German grading system, 1 is the highest mark. The greater the number, the lower the grade. He switched between schools, so there was a misunderstanding.
Come on, Norah, comic’s not going to show up any sooner just because you keep ch–
–oh.
Please tell me that stain under the baseball bat is just Kevin’s shadow.
Say Grundy, can you recommend many good Lupin movies to watch? I love the ‘genius intellect’ of Beck from the anime of amnesia Big O, and it cited he’s based on Lupin, despite western audience often relating him to the riddler. So I’ve been watching a few youtube clips of him so far. Been pretty fascinating to see some of the older influences of the manga/anime culture =3 (immediately seeing loads of Cowboy Bebops character design influence too)
I can! (also you can see the influence pretty hard in my art as well I think, haha)
Lupin The Third Episode Zero: The First Contact is a television special that is pretty good, has an origin story in it (one of many, actually, but they’re all pretty similar), fun place to start.
Then there’s the Miyazaki directed movie, Castle of Cagliostro. The cast is a lot more lighthearted in it that really rubs hardcore fans the wrong way but they can eat it as far as I’m concerned, because it’s a delightful movie, and the animation’s beautiful. Since it’s more lighthearted it’s also a good place to start.
Secret of Mamo is wonderful and was the first theatrical film of the series. It’s delightfully weird! but the real strength is the original 1970s show, fans call the green jacket series. It’s sorta slow at first but picks up pretty quick about a couple episodes in. There’s not that many episodes so it’s not that much of a time investment.
Red Jacket is everyone’s introduction, usually, since the dub ran on Adult Swim, and I love that series, also, but it’s a bit of an investment because there’s like over 200 episodes. It’s also WAY goofier. It has a lot of really good episodes, some of which are also directed by Miyazaki! One of those has the robot from Castle In The Sky.
I’ve never watched any Pink Jacket series, so I am a poseur, perhaps, haha.
I also really enjoyed Operation Return the Treasure although it falls apart at the end a bit.
A lot of Lupin is REALLY WEIRD as in like an episode about how Jesus died in Japan and his sister was the first vampire kind of weird, but since you like The Big O I think you’ll be okay with that.
I watched “Castle of Cagliostro” just because I knew Grundy was a fan and I really enjoyed it! It’s got a “Shanghai Noon” adult action-adventure fun kinda vibe with, of course, good Miyazaki storytelling.
Can’t comment on the rest cos I haven’t seen ’em. :3
ooo crazy good list B) if only his manga was available to read to (I dig original source too much XD) btw, have you seen the trailers for the movie released recently? Any interest on it?
Gimme a nights sleep, then tomoz ill prolly start workin my way thru ur list B) (thinks of it like homework from TEACHER GRUNDY)
uh… Schtein isn’t tied up AT ALL anymore. i wonder if able is too distracted or temporarily let him off the leash?
the first one.
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on here before, but I’ve been following this comic for a few years now, and I just wanted to tell you that your work is very beautiful. You’ve grown so much as an artist, and it’s very inspiring :)
Ahh I love that distorted perspective in the last panel!
Shag carpeting really is awful. Try being forced to sweep it with a broom in lieu of a vacuum. Then it’s the devil.
And in other news, oh hey, it’s the Chicago Liberation Front, all two of them! I wonder what wretched fate befell them…
I wouldn’t want to be in a room where I was reminded of my horrible grades. (shiver)
Ten bucks says it’s Schtein’s dad’s memories.
At first, I wasn’t sure what was going on in that last panel. Then I saw the picture…
Dear God, that picture…
Yyyyep.
I’ve got so many terrible feelings associated with shag carpeting. The place I currently live has it now and every time i step in my room the word PESTILENCE echos in my mind because of it. And lving with people who cannot abide anything scented at all makes finding cleaning chemicals for the carpet the worst. Seriously, if you know of a good unscented carpet shampoo please let me know.
No, I really don’t. All I do know is when we finally ripped it out I got to enjoy a full body allergic reaction that lasted a whole summer. Shag carpet is awful. Small rugs of it look ok, but wall to wall? Blegh why
Wall-to-wall carpeting is possibly even worse. I suggest no carpet at all.
happy birthday, schtein!
Liking the comic so far. And it’s really hard to get me interested when shabby science concepts are present. Grats ^^ Anyways, interesting concepts and plot
Maybe it’s Annie and John’s memories? I mean, they DID disappear mysteriously due to exposure to Schtein’s powers…
It is
