Egads! Now he exhibits concern?? surely if he knows that Herville is there he’s been following events for some time and should know about the explosion?–or am I jumping to conclusions?(O)(O)??
Or he got partial report and second hand data from the last remaining member of his family. Just because he heard about a explosion doesn’t mean he got all the details.
Unless, you don’t just randomly get infected by the spores, via airborn pathogens or bacteria, but it is actually a conscious or semi-conscious entity that is controlled by…um…(Can’t recall Granpa Schtein’s actual name). Like a spore hive-mind, following orders.
I get the impression that Opa is legitimately concerned. He just seems so sincerely shocked and at least a little upset. And if he’s not aware of Herville’s history, then the eyes would be pretty unnerving.
hahah, how come, are you German? I can’t imagine what an American accent sounds like without hearing it mimicked poorly by brits or otherwise, so I understand. :D
I’m from England, born and bred, though funny enough when I was young the other kids used to ask if I was german, musta have had a funny voice as a kid! XD
Hold up a sec, the guy who turned this place into fungus zombies and made it unlivable is concerned and horrified about a little ol’ thing like Schtein’s eyes?
Clearly, human experimentation is opa’s gig and noone else’s plus our schtein clearly had a bit of opa ‘s work done to him, so anyone messing with that is a problem. Or maybe Opa is jealous he’s not as awesomely evil looking-all that effort on perfecting a creepy mad scientist look and schtein shows up only 34 but with newfangled red on black eyes, kids these days! Always one upping their elders.
He’s a sociopath, obviously the scope of things he cares or doesn’t care about is different. Not to mention he’s a scientist and operates on a different moral code than other people.
I wonder if those implants hinder Opa’s plans for him… like maybe he was supposed to have weird powers too, but they don’t work with fake eyes? In any case, I doubt it’s merely concern for Doc’s well being.
It really isn’t! It’s a total coincidence. I actually had no idea what Asimov looked like until someone pointed out the similarity. That’s pretty neat. I’m glad, though, because it’s always cool to find real life similar faces for refs.
So this is where Orville sits, surrounded by his toxic zombies, when he receives visitors? Or was it just happy chance that he was in the throne room, chatting with his hoard, when the visitors arrived?
You know, upon seeing this page again I think it would have been nice to have a view of Schtein from the POV of Opa on this page, before the last panel.
Egads! Now he exhibits concern?? surely if he knows that Herville is there he’s been following events for some time and should know about the explosion?–or am I jumping to conclusions?(O)(O)??
I’d guess he probably just knew Herv was there from his creepy plant zombies, not from following events.
Or he was following events and is only bringing his eyes up to be a dick, rather than to show concern.
That said, the facial expression seems pretty concerned indeed, so he’s either a good actor, or he’s genuinely concerned.
Or he got partial report and second hand data from the last remaining member of his family. Just because he heard about a explosion doesn’t mean he got all the details.
oops–double post– and now, no one has protection from spores! This really bodes badly.
Unless, you don’t just randomly get infected by the spores, via airborn pathogens or bacteria, but it is actually a conscious or semi-conscious entity that is controlled by…um…(Can’t recall Granpa Schtein’s actual name). Like a spore hive-mind, following orders.
I’m poop
If by gross you mean sexy I am 100% behind you
Not sure if Opa Schtein is concerned, or just toying with him. And I can’t help but reading everything he says in a German accent.
On another note, I love the lighting on this page.
Well, he is German, so excellent, glad that’s coming through.
I get the impression that Opa is legitimately concerned. He just seems so sincerely shocked and at least a little upset. And if he’s not aware of Herville’s history, then the eyes would be pretty unnerving.
I know what you mean but I have to admit I fail at imagining what a German accent even sounds like ;D
Maybe not so much concerned as a bit freaked out maybe? Like WTF are those spose to be!? NEW GENERATION FASHION NOW?!??

Shut up Opa! I’m 40 years old and it’s 2057!
He’s only 34!
Yeah I just realized that . . . I’m such an Osgood.
hahah well it’s ok, years of crappy living have taken their toll
Quick, Herv, use your laser vision!
Orville’s face is so perfectly maniacal. I can’t wait to see where this is going.

sociopaths have actually been shown to have a deep rooted affection for their offspring. The theory being that they see them as a part of themselves
that explains a lot about how the gene proliferates, actually
I guess he’s a bit concerned by his grandson, i don’t think he would like to know his eyes blown up in an experiment
Such a freaky scene, and then the last panel–I was touched. Dang!
I have a great love for the 3rd panel, can’t really explain why.
I wonder if those implants hinder Opa’s plans for him… like maybe he was supposed to have weird powers too, but they don’t work with fake eyes? In any case, I doubt it’s merely concern for Doc’s well being.
I love the grinning blue-eyed zombie in that one panel, it looks like it’s smiling up at Orville and waiting from him to compliment it too.
With that complexion, I half except the next plot twist to be that Orville is a zombie himself (not really.)
Fangirl zombie best zombie
That one cracked me up too!
Is Ze Good Doctor’s likeness to Isaac Asimov intentional? :)
It really isn’t! It’s a total coincidence. I actually had no idea what Asimov looked like until someone pointed out the similarity. That’s pretty neat. I’m glad, though, because it’s always cool to find real life similar faces for refs.
Its the eyes, gets them every time….
says the man with the fungal zombie army…
Aww grampa seems so nice despite being evil
So this is where Orville sits, surrounded by his toxic zombies, when he receives visitors? Or was it just happy chance that he was in the throne room, chatting with his hoard, when the visitors arrived?
HA fine young man HAH
You know, upon seeing this page again I think it would have been nice to have a view of Schtein from the POV of Opa on this page, before the last panel.
What is he responding to in the first panel?
It’s not a response.
