Chp4 Page 13
that’s a rude thing to say about your grandson, Orville.
(also, before anyone says anything, I’m aware that’s not how freilich is spelled.)
Comic may possibly be extravagantly late this week; I’m getting married.
Actually, have a closeup view of those monitors while you wait
And the plot thickens O: I’m loving this flashback so far.
Schtein’s thinking may be augmented, but I don’t think he ever asked for this.
I see what you did there
Suddenly Doc’s freakish intelligence makes sense.
On a side note I failed to mention above, Grandpa seems genuinely disappointed with his son taking Doc. Perhaps, since he didn’t just plug him full of superpowers like his other “kids”, this little experiment meant more to him than just science…?
Grandpa Orville seems pretty “with it” when it comes to the kids–they get to call him by his first name!
THE LOWER LIP. NEXT-TO-LAST PANEL. THAT IS BOSS why do we not see that illustrated???
The last two panels showing Orville aren’t creepy at all.
Great job on the new page comrade, cant wait for the next one.
Those kids on the moniters in panel 8 O.O
Words cannot describe how much I love panel #8. Every single aspect: the lip fingering, the creeper panels in the background….pure joy. Well, twisted joy. Something.
That Expression. WOW. Every one of the expressions Orville makes on this page are wonderful, but that 8th panel is just in a world of its own. Really really wonderful work.
THAT’S NOT HOW FREIL–oh.
(loljk)
Orville is so fidgety. It suits him somehow…
the second-to-last panel is beautiful for so many reasons.
He is probably a terrible person but wow I love his face.
Define terrible.
Terrible in that he has no issue inflicting vast amounts of pain and misery upon people/children for genetic augmentation/experimentation for the sake of science- yeah, that goes with out saying.
But seeing as the kids – are not afraid to talk to him- let alone call him by his first name- and he talks to them as people, not as objects or expendable experiments. . . he does not seem so bad.
It just really really sucks to be a “failed” project.
I’m not sure I’d let him babysit.
People who do terrible things don’t always act like terrible people–frequently, it’s the opposite. In fact, there’s a joke (?) that goes like so: It is time to elect a new world leader, and your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three leading candidates:
Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He’s had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.
Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero. He’s a vegetarian, loves animals, doesn’t smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn’t had any extramarital affairs.
Who do you pick?
Well, Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt, Candidate B is Winston Churchill, and Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.
If anything, being nice in all situations but the ones that actually matter makes a person more terrifying, not less–especially when they seem to lack any guilt for their actions. Like our lovely Orville here.
Pretty much. :/ Human nature and psychology, you so wacky!
Candidate B was also a total loser in every way but one (job-wise anyways). Reminds me of the Colonel from KFC.
terrific page. As others have noted, Orville’s body language is like whoa. (all right, no one said “like whoa” but… it is. Like, whoa. the second-to-last panel. It’s on par with Joker’s lip-licking — whiiich sounds awkward, but it’s a great facial tic.) (done babbling now)
the Doctorstrangelove is strong in this one :)
Being German (and Bavarian) i have a funfact for you: Freilick is the correct bavarian pronounciation of the word “freilich” .. written usually with a G at the end, but then again dialects aren’t written in stone anyway. So rest assured that (from my point of view) you have made no mistake but actually gave Orville a more distinct background. <3
interesting! I am going for a goofy berliner accent, I don’t know if they’re related or not.
Berliner accent? Very good, that’s what i thought when i read “wa?”. About the relationship between Berliner and Bavarian accent: Since Berlin is located north of the Weißwurstäquator (i.e is in former Prussia), you should under no circumstances imply they are related. For bavarians, that’s the “enemy” ;)
That beeing said, it is a common joke in the rest of germany that you need to apply for a visa if you wish to enter bavaria…
ha ha, noted.
es ist would be contracted to ist’s. I’mmmm not sure that would happen in Berlinerische, though. Probably end up more like ‘ist keen Problem’ because es gets pronounced as et. But he’d still say it’s in english.
But don’t listen to me, my German’s awful, I have to have like twenty tabs open to various dictionaries and translation sites every time!
Loving the veiny hands and body language- great attention to detail! Gramps’ mutton chops sorta remind me of Isaac Asimov.
I had too much fun drawing those gross old people hands. :D
Oh yes, Herville will be just fine and dandy. With great social skills too!
I think we have his mother to thank for her assistance in developing those social skills.
The whitecoat looks suspiciously like Dr Isaac Asimov in facial appearance and dress.
I had no idea what Isaac Asimov looked like, so I did a quick google and WHOA WHOOPS. haha, uhhh… What a weird coincidence. I just like mutton chops. :I
I love the flow of body language with your characters. It’s fantastic! Also my grandfather’s German…and his name is Orville. I may have to rethink his reasoning for giving me educational books for all my birthdays. Hmm…
I absolutely love how you wrote out the grandfather’s lines. Beautifully done.
The monitors in the background… Grandpa Stein’s creepy numbers are rising
Hmmm.
Makes me wonder if his mental capacity here has anything to do with his hatred of being touched. Sounds like the type of thing that goes hand in hand
Uh-oh.
All of these pages are making me feel very sad and sorry for Schtein.
“he won’t m- amount to much” what was Orville about to say?
(Poor little Schtein)
same thing. Just different word order.
“He won’t much amount to ” – assuming because that would be closer to what the German sentence structure would be, if he was speaking German.
OF COURSE, why didn’t I think about it. Cheers for the attention to detail!
OK WOAH I didn’t notice what was on those moniters the first time around. I can see why Schtein’s dad would want to keep his kids away from Orville…
-I- bag groceries. I:C
Haha, okay? He’s not talking about you, silly.
