Mad scientists! They can never leave well enough alone. *huff*
This comic is the highlight of my goddamn week. Every week.
omggggg what is he going to doooo I’m so nervous for Doc here
I think my family’s worried about me now because of the noise I’ve been making
So basically the Mad Scientist decided to create another Mad Scientist?
I had wondered how they breed. Mad Scientists tend to be pretty inept when it comes to kids.
man, schtein’s face… mAN
OMG GENIUS SCHTEIN BECOMES MORE GENIUS
Don’t fight it, Schtein! You know how mad science is! DO EET
OOOOhmuhgush. I’ve been waitin for this work of beauty =D Gaaaahh.. this is awesome. And LOL at the curious peepers around the bend on panel 5 xD!!
Aw, grandpa cured his mental defect? How sweet.
Too bad about the side effects though, right?
man, schtein’s face is how i feel every day
The box in panel 2 says “hematopoetic progenitor cells” — effectively bone marrow stem cells, I think?
yeah, basically. Very handy for orville, I think.
Awesome! You are making me hit the Wikipedia for answers. His hand troubles make me think that he ended up with Klinefelter’s Syndrome and has Ichthyosis in strange patches but who knows… (you know)
definitely not ichthyosis, that stuff is really obvious going by the terrifying GIS I just did on it. D: (of course everything always looks a million times worse in google image search)
Well shit, you had to leave it there, didn’t you.
Classic badguy justification
I’m fairly sure that the phrase, “Why not go a step further?” is in the Mad Scientist Anonymous warning pamphlet.
Another week of waiting?! Damn you Grundy! Damn you and your magic story telling!
Also did anyone else pick up on the bomb shell of “involved in your fathers death”
My guess is that Orville should not have told Doc that because he’s now probably going to beat answers out of Jessup at some point and there’s no way that’s going to end pleasantly
who are you kidding? It will end great for us!
Oh god, those creepy zombie things peeking around the corner in panel 5…
Also: we have to wait another week to find out what’s going to happen to Doc! X(
I’m rather starting to like the old guy. He grows on you. Like…fungus.
Pfft! Hah hah! Agreed!
So the Schtein’s a chimera?
“the Schtein”… I don’t know what my brain’s doing today.
That is like the perfect thing to put on a coffee mug he could have in his house or something. #1 Schtein.
I’m not clear on whether chimeras and mosaicism are totally different, but similar things, or if mosaicism is just a branch of chimerism. So a tentative… yes?
further personal research suggests the difference is that chimeras are people comprised of two fertilized eggs and mosaics are a single fertilized egg that experienced an error during early splitting. So, not, not a chimera. They’re pretty similar, though!
Whoa my theory was right! I should have posted it somewhere so iI could bask in the glory of my rightness with an envious audienc rather than alone. Oh well.
What theory is that, post it here
Well the short version is that ever since you showed Orville as a child and i felt it was implied he was autistic (or something similar) I understand enough about autism to know it effects ones social interaction the most. His aversion to touch as well as his inability to relate to most human beings in “normal” way would be inline with his autism. Although grandpa crazy made him a genius he did not cure his other issues. But as i write all this out i am starting to realize this may still just be a unconfirmed theory. :(
sorry its like 3am my brain is fuzzy i meant Herville not Orville
Aversion to touch, social withdrawal, and inability to relate to others are also major signs of neglect and abuse. Heck, as an adult he has the classic abuse survivor behaviors. Which makes perfect sense, given his background… There’s lots of non-autism reasons for a kid to behave the way Herville used to.
i didnt mean to imply that autism was the only possible reason for herville’s behavior. just that it seemed like a logical explaination to me. had the author never implied he was “a simpleton” i probably wouldnt have even made the connection. his childhood would and could explain much of his behavior (even his fetish for angry women lol). i think perhaps his aloofness about his childhood is what moved my train of thought towards his autism rather than the abuse/neglect. i also assumed his possible autism was what contributed to why his mother abused him…like she couldnt handle it.
No! Where did the bad grammar go? And no funny little Germanicisms except for the last panel? Tragic!
Anyway, beautiful page as usual and the story never stops being gripping. I always imagine it as an awesome and beautifully drawn TV series while reading. Or maybe that’s just my tendency to give the characters different voices in my head.
I’m just not a fan of overdoing it, so
Aw Doc looks so tired and sad and a little exasperated.
In other news, I named my cat after Orville von Schtein. :D
Orville would be a pretty cute name for a pet. I approve.
Although I wonder if Schtein really had a low IQ or merely an average one (Brilliantly mad people tend to think that anyone whose IQ is below theirs is an imbecile) it still must create some internal turmoil that his genius is merely the result of experimentation, rather than his own “god given” abilities. Poor Schtein
what do you mean ‘merely’?!
Man, I can’t help but hear Orville speaking like Tony Jay using a German accent.
neeed update, I’m jonesin :(
