talkin’ ’bout grandpa.
I love the second last panel where she pauses to think. That pause came across great, I could actually hear it in their conversation. Awesome :D
Plus, the dialogue is absolutely perfect. Dramatic, tight… excellently done.
Oh man, I feel sorry for Schtein. That is not a good memory of a dad…
But MAN is mom evil! She seems pretty okay with being accused of driving someone to suicide, but it’s totally not okay for her son to leave her.
I see why Schtein is kind of crazy…
How old is Schtein in this exchange? I can’t remember.
Isn’t that when he went to college?
somewhere around 15-16. I never really explicitly said, but his streak of white is a little smaller than last time. Easy way to show small differences in age!
“It’s not like I’m going to kill a whole city’s population with a virus…I’d rather use mutant kittens”
“And be a raging drug addict. And an unmitigated misanthrope. Oh, and occasionally explode some people… But viruses? No; no way.”
hey, only SOME people. Not like… a whole LOT of people. There’s a difference, man.
Oh sweet, no better way to wake up than with a new update! :D Amazing as always. I’m really loving Schtein’s relationship with his mum. Is she still alive? I’d LOVE to see the present Schtein interact with her. :3 I wonder what it would be like… *Family Guy-style flashback*
Also, what the heck is he holding? A pillow?
A pillow he wants to use on his (s)mother?
No, unfortunately (or fortunately), she’s not.
Well, here’s to hoping there are plenty more flashbacks of the two before she died, then! *raises beer mug*
1) the look on her face is AMAZING. “Wellll … he has a point.”
2) Is Schtein about to smother her with that pillow? I know he’s thinking about it, at least.
intended more as a ‘oh lord give me strength’ face, ha ha.
Maybe the reason she is so cranky is because Schtein stole her pillow and now she isn’t comfortable.
Put. The pillow. Back on the bed.
Is it bad that I actually rather like the mother? Not as a person, but as a character. I’d like to know more about her, and I hope we see more of her in the future.
yeah dang, that is rude. >:/
I don’t know how much she’ll make appearances, but we’ll get to know more about her somewhat eventually. It’s a little important to the story. More so later on.
Both parents had been carrying the recessive gene for blue eyes, obviously. In fact, both parents could have easily had brown eyes while carrying recessive genes for blues eye. If B = brown and b = blue, then Bb x Bb can = either BB; Bb; or bb; which means that there is a 33% chance for blue eyes. There’s a higher chance if Schtein’s dad had blue eyes. Don’t you just love genetics?
Wouldn’t the possible results from Bb x Bb be BB, Bb, Bb(again), and bb? So, 25% chance.
My mom has brown eyes and I have blue eyes, it happens.
You answered your own question, blue is recessive. That means his mom could have a copy of the recessive blue gene xD
Also eye color and pigment is controlled by like… three alleles, so crazy shit happens.
To Prospice: Yes, my comment sounded kind of silly coming after Hedometer’s comment. However, my original comment was directed towards Eeprom.
Never mind, it just sounds weird all the way around. XD
I think Prospice meant to reply to Eeprom, actually.
A simple way to put it is that if both of his parents had the recessive potential for blue eyes lying dormant in their genes, there was a 25% chance that Schtein would be born with blue eyes.
Also, I’ve never commented on this comic before, but I love it hard. <3 It's one of my favorite things to distract myself from everyday stress. Thanks for making it!
There’s a myriad of different ways it could happen. His mother could have one dominant brown eye gene and one recessive blue eye gene, or her genes could have crossed over during meiosis.
Also it’s important to remember that eye color isn’t determined by ONE gene, its determined by many, so you can have a lot of different genes affecting eye color. And you can also have some environmental factors and other physical conditions that contribute to eye color during development.
Like how some children are born with yellow eyes?
Are you thinking of jaundice? Because that’s when the white part of the eye (sclera) is yellow because of poor liver function. I’m talking about the iris colors.
My mom grew up with a girl with yellow eyes. Iris colour. It’s not very common, but it’s out there.
Physics is different from genetics, however – just like a deadly virus – a physics-based weapon can still obliterate a city.
true, but he probably has only the best intentions here. Doubt he intends to specialize in weaponry.
wow…what a bitch :(.
But in all seriousness, love love love your comic and your style.
Oooh, my goodness, my predictions are starting to look more and more likely. Hee. I like speculating. And whoa! bad memories. Oh Schtein. You’re messed up, but we love you.
he’s entirely made of bad memories.
It’s not even funny anymore how much young Schtein looks like a younger version of my friend.
love his face in teh last panel. :D
sad for his mom to… yeah.
Gosh Schtein, you’re such a buzzkill.
Yeah, he really should have killed her when he had the chance. I tell ya … always make friends with a contractor that digs the pits for in ground pools. Great place to hide a body!
Love the page! Vanity mirror, bed in panel 1, and flowers all come out quite nice lookin’.
Mrs Schtein’s guide to: How to succesfully manipulate your children (and make them hate you for life and beyond!)
Looks like everyone already answered your question with some sweet sweet science.
In my boyfriend’s family everyone has blue eyes but his are green. Genetics!
Nope, both parents have brown hair and green eyes. My sister has blond hair and blue eyes, and we always made adopted jokes around her.
oh ooops. I guess I don’t spend enough time gazing longingly into your parents eyes. :D
“You drove him to suicide!”
“…You win this round son. you win this round…”
Is it wrong I laughed? D:
Well, I guess his grandfather killing so many people with a virus and his dad’s suicide over it might account for some of Schtein’s being so scared of germs.
