Let’s go see Opa Orville
Yaaay :D !~
Magical mushrooms? dose G’pa Schtien like to chase smirfs when he’s not screwing up chicago?
Opa Herville style? :O
this comment makes no sense to me. Opa means grandpa.
I think he means Opa as in Schitens grandfathers stile, suggesting that a large portion of this chapter will focus on him. But this is just a guess.
I think it’s probably a reference to a kpop ear worm that became rather popular this past summer. The chorus goes “Oppa Gangnam style,” and in that case the oppa translates to brother. If you’ve managed to *not* hear that song, I don’t recommend googling, though the video is kinda amusing.
I’ve seen the video
It was pretty hard to avoid, yeah. More importantly, I like the new menacing fungi in the corner!
Elder brother. Apparently how one refers to one’s boyfriend in Korea (per my Korean wife).
Hes growing his own shroom’s LOL.
Dude that is SUCH a Dr. Horrible outfit. <3
Also wow that was a really short chapter.
Sir, I hold you responsible for introducing me to Dr. Horrible and for all the feelings I’m feeling right now because of it.
BTW it does look a little Dr.Horribl-y, but not too much
it’s just a stereotypical mad scientist outfit. They kind of predate dr. horrible??
although dr. horrible’s only buttoned up one side, there’s a name for that style but I forget. You pretty much only see them on dentists in like England.
*complains about design* also I’m suddenly really exited about this chapter!! That is some absolutely beautiful fungus.
what are we complaining about? Do I even want to know?
Ah! The top banner was changed! I like it :D At this point, good foreshadowing; Schtein doesn’t seem confident at all about going to see his father.
Followed this from the beginning and I have I have never been more pumped by a chapter cover art then this.
Grandpa Schtien has a very menacingly melancholy feel
Ah, somehow I get an (M)Alice in Wunderland vibe!
He looks a lot like Isaac Asimov, no?
haha he does, yeah. I was glad when someone pointed that out for me, it’s nice to have real life reference for the hair at least. Their face structures aren’t quite the same, but still. Unintentional resemblances are pretty funny.
I’ve been waiting so long for this! 8D
I thought some of the fungii near the top of his cane was floating in the air, and I’m all, “DOES HE HAVE POWERS TOO? 8o” And then I realized it was attached to that so…yeah. And then I got distracted by his shiny beautiful shoes. I love this cover.
Wow, amazing cover picture, just beautiful and creepy. I love fungi.
But that was a very short chapter 5. I had expected it to go for the same page number as the previous ones.
the page numbers already vary wildly, but let’s think of it like chapters in a novel rather than comic issues. Comic issues are only certain page numbers because of the needs of printing. I have no such constraints, so I can make my chapters as long or as short as they need to be. Preferably shorter, though, once they go over 50 pages they seem to really mess up my archive pages, haha.
Those mushrooms and the sickly green glow of his eyes really give it a creepy vibe for me. reminds me of Morrigan Lugus from Warren Ellis’ Supergod.
Why do I get the feeling that the Chicago Quarantine Zone has something to do with extreme mutations of fungal growth in abundance?
